Gammon has committed to set near-term company-wide emission reductions targets in line with the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi)

Embedding sustainability

Gammon recognises that every individual and organisation has a role to play in the battle against climate change.

Gammon is proud to have become Hong Kong and Mainland China's first construction and engineering company to commit to set near-term company-wide emission reductions targets in line with the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi). In the wider Asia region, only 32 other companies in the sector are taking similar action.

Under the SBTi commitment, Gammon is setting two targets for 2033 (base year: 2021):

  1. Scope 1 and 2: mainly energy related emissions
Cutting 55% emissions through early site electrification, the deployment of electric plant and vehicles, increased energy and refrigerant efficiency, and the adoption of modern methods of construction.

  2. Scope 3: mainly supply chain related indirect emissions Reducing indirect emissions - mainly the embodied carbon in materials - by 33% through modularisation and reuse of structural steel, lower carbon concrete mixes, procurement of lower carbon steel, optimised material usage through design and construction methods, and selection of alternative materials with a lower carbon footprint.

The commitment will be challenging but Gammon believe it’s absolutely the right thing to do for its customers, employees and for the health of the planet.
